06:46 pm - Yay viruses.
(I actually wrote this a few days ago, but forgot to post it until now...)

All infected links go to view-source, which won't allow any scripts to execute.

So my site got another virus. (ANOTHER wtf globat; I'm gonna have to prod them about this)

It links to a site by the name of HubersLodge, which is obviously infected (link is a Google Diagnostics page). Gee, thanks guys.

Looking into that one's source reveals the script leading to a different site, something indian, which in turn leads to something polish which has no further leads (!).

Incidentally, visiting my host's Diagnostics page wasn't interesting, but the servers it uses...

At least it's a different type of virus from the ones I got last year.

While reuploading every htm (UGH) I found a couple directories that I definitely didn't make. But they didn't appear to contain anything and I could delete them without issue. Wtf.
( things like dimensionalarea.net/Callicoon/2006/TractorParade/ulwd & dimensionalarea.net/Callicoon/2006/Floods/lqa )

And, oh ffs. A subsite I host (my dad's) had the same type of code, linking to some other place. fffffff

eta is that all HTMs/CSS have been repaired. blah!

12:01 am - Digimon and angel magic
There's a group of Digimon, the Seven Great Demon Lords (Nana Dai-Maoh), who have crests, like the Chosen Children from Adventure, but these crests are named after the seven deadly sins. There's a bunch of info on Wikimon... And I see a LOT more has gone up since I started writing this file. Er. Aw, what the hell, I'll post this anyway.

I did kind of wonder where the crest designs came from, but figured it was sourced from wherever the Children's crest designs were from (i.e. Akiyoshi Hongo or a Toei artist). A while ago, though, I was watching Silent Hill 1 cutscenes on Youtube, and was suddenly confronted with the Demon Lord crests on in-game TV screens...

So okay, obviously they're not original to Digimon. Where'd they come from, then?

Lots and lots of Googling, plus delving into my dad's symbol dictionary (awesome book), provides the answer!

A table and pics! )

I started that back in October and have only now gotten around to finishing it. :B

02:52 am - SD Gundam Force Chinese dub names
Chinese names :D! From the Taiwanese liner notes!

I did this with NJStar's chinese incarnation. The "vague pronounciation" thing is for people familiar with english phonetics, and my source is Wikipedia. |D! I probably made boatloads of errors, so, uh, take this with a grain of salt? I find this sort of list interesting, though, so I'm posting it anyway!

[14:41:11] * Professor_Layto is now known as ProfessorLayton
[14:42:36] <ProfessorLayton> Every puzzle has an answer.
[14:44:23] <ProfessorLayton> Luke, my boy, have you heard this one?
[14:45:57] <ProfessorLayton> An astronaut once went to a strange planet. There, he found that the planet was inhabited by aliens. There were 251 aliens which looked like males, 101 that looked like females and 15 which had both male and female characteristics. How many aliens are on that planet?
[14:49:56] <n0es> 337
[14:50:00] <ProfessorLayton> (While you're thinking, an annoying music loop plays)
[14:50:30] <ProfessorLayton> "Hmm, here's my answer..." ........ WHOAAAAAAAAP" "Oh, I'm ashamed...."
[14:50:34] <ProfessorLayton> Sorry, wrong. Try again.
[14:51:47] <ProfessorLayton> Do you wish to use a Hint Coin?
[14:52:08] <ProfessorLayton> monobot flip coin
[14:52:09] <Monobot> I don't think so ProfessorLayton
[14:52:19] <ProfessorLayton> monobot flip a coin
[14:52:19] <Monobot> What do you mean 'flip a coin'?
[14:52:44] <ProfessorLayton> I thought monobot had this function.
[14:53:12] <ProfessorLayton> Anyway, the hint: The answer lies not within the numbers, but within the question.
[14:53:26] <Lacey> 1.
[14:53:31] <Lacey> The astronaut.
[14:53:34] <ProfessorLayton> CORRECT
[14:53:38] <Lacey> Yay.
[14:53:44] <ProfessorLayton> You win some Picorats.
[14:53:46] <ProfessorLayton> Whatever those are.
[14:53:53] <Lacey> Yay, things!
[14:57:07] <ProfessorLayton> Okay, here's the next puzzle.
[14:57:50] <ProfessorLayton> You have only one match left. You want to light the room with an oil lamp, start a fire to warm the room, and heat your bathwater. In order to complete all of the above actions, what should you light first?
[15:00:50] <Monofarling> I suggest the match, unless you have a better idea.
[15:01:03] <ProfessorLayton> You win.
[15:01:08] <ProfessorLayton> 15 Picarats for you
[15:01:36] <Lacey> Heheh.

11:01 pm - Diagnosis
Sinus infection. |3 Go me.

So now I've got an antibiotic to take every 12 hours for the next 10 days (to clear out the infestation), and a nasal spray to do every 12 hours for the next 10 days (to clear the sinuses). I'm also to do the face-in-a-pot-of-steam thing thrice a day. My dad got a small humidifier, so that runs next to my bed, too.

The doctor said I should start feeling better in five days (and to call him if I don't), and totally better in 10 days. Otherwise, I can get a refill for my antibiotic to go for another 10 days.

I foresee much yogurt in my future.

06:48 am - Sick as a dog
As all my friends from IRC have noticed, I've been sick for the whole week. |D This is pretty much the sickest I've been since my FLU OF DOOM way back in December 2003... And it's a freakin' COLD OF DOOM. Bacterial cold, though; mom's going to call the doc on Monday, to see if I should get checked for bronchitis or something...
The infection's finally moving, after like 6 days of being just a nose/sinus/pharynx deal... into my lungs & larynx, and hasn't even let up on the upper respiratory stronghold yet. >|

11:52 pm - It's a good thing I like sleep
I had a nasty headache yesterday, so I took some headache medicine for it!

<Talec|earlyZzz> holy crap
<Talec|earlyZzz> I guess I really DID need sleep
<Talec|earlyZzz> normally I'm like "well, headache medicine generally only makes me sleepy if I need sleep", so when I was dropping off four hours before I normally go to bed, I just went with it

So I went to bed at 1AM, instead of my usual ~5:30AM.

<Talec|earlyZzz> thirteen hours later I wake up feeling refreshed!

which is actually pretty nice, first time I've waken up without any residual drowsiness in a while.

I had a dream or two during that, too:

<Talec> during my 13-hour sleepathon, I had this totally annoying dream
<Talec> so I was waking up, and I was like "HEY THIS ISN'T A DREAM I REMEMBER, IT'S A MEMORY! :O" so I made sure to remember it very carefully (because I tend to forget dreams and dream-like memories if I shift position or something)
<Talec> And while I was in the middle of writing it down
<Talec> I woke up again.
<Talec> and I was like "gah! Must write it down!"
<Talec> this time I didn't even make it to the paper before waking up again.
<Talec> this happened SEVERAL MORE TIMES
<Talec> before I woke up for realz and was finally able to write it down (FOR REALZ)
<Talec> of course it wasn't a RL memory like I thought it was (IN THE DREAM)

04:43 pm - The Definition of 'Fiction'
Found in "The Oxford Companion to the English Language":

FICTION [14c: from Latin fictio/fictionis a shaping, from fingere/fictum to fashion]. A general term for something created by the human mind. It has three aspects, each with an appropriate adjective:

(1) (Both countable and uncountable). Not fact, but an invention of some kind, sometimes a fabrication or lie. The detective Sherlock Holmes was an invention of the writer Arthur Conan Doyle, and as such is fictitious; no such person ever lived.

(2) (Usually uncountable). Not fact, but still part of reality; imaginative narrative, often part of literature: works of fiction in contrast with non-fiction, especially in bookshops and libraries. Here the fictional Sherlock Holmes is a fact in the sense that a character with this name appears in certain stories and films, and can be discussed in much the same way as a historical person.

(3) (Usually countable). A special kind of 'fact': a social and cultural construct, such as a legal fiction that helps in the administration of the law, temporal fictions such as the days of the week, and geographical fictions like the Equator. Such constructs are part of life; they are fictive or constructed, and include products of imaginative storytelling. Fictively, Sherlock Holmes and the Equator are on a par, the one influencing crime writers, criminologists, and enthusiasts for the detective story, the other affecting geographers and sailors.

The fictive generally subsumes both the fictional and the fictitious. Fictitious reports and fictional plots and characters are constantly being created in a language like English. At a certain level of discussion the language is itself fictive: something created by the human mind within a cultural system so as to serve certain social ends.

Compare FANTASY, MYTH.
See NARRATIVE, NOVEL, ONOMASTICS, POETRY, POPULAR FICTION, ROMANTIC FICTION, SCIENCE FICTION, SOCIAL REALISM, STORY, VERSE. [LANGUAGE, LITERATURE].
